Pink Loerie celebrates 16 years in 2016

23 January 2016
This year's Pink Loerie Mardi Gras Arts Festival takes place in Knysna from Wednesday 27 April to Sunday 1 May.

The 2016 theme is "Young at Heart and Never Been Kissed" and celebrates the event's 16th anniversary.

The festival will include 16 things to do in Knysna, 16 places of special interest in the region, 16 restaurants to visit and much more.

The VIP Dinner and Fundraising Auction will be held on Friday, 29 April and the Sweet Sixteen party hosted by Betty Bangles on Saturday, 30 April.

Knysna and its visitors will again be able to enjoy a host of drag acts as part of Wigstock Chapter 2, which is planned to coincide with Pink Loerie 2016.

The organisers are also pleased to welcome newcomers to the Pink Loerie, the bears, who will present the Bear Colony Festival 2016.

Wikipedia summarises the bear culture as a segment of the male bisexual and gay culture as a larger, hairier man who projects masculinity. Bears are one of many groupings in the LGBT community with their own events, codes and a culture-specific identity. The term bear was popularised by Richard Bulger, who was the co-founder of Bear Magazine in 1987.
