CAPE TOWN PRIDE 2014: ALL THE DETAILS

LGBTI Pride is coming to the tip of the African continent once again, as Cape Town celebrates Pride 2014 from 21 February to 2 March.

The 10-day festival comprises of a host of community-orientated events that are free of charge as well as other exclusive events that attract the more well-heeled members of the LGBTI community.

According to the organisers, the 2013 festival had over 15,000 spectators and participants taking part in the street parade and had a record number of just under 6,000 people attending the after party that was held in the De Waterkant Village.

This year, the event is being held under the theme of “Uniting the Cultures of Cape Town”. As in previous years, the festival will raise money for various beneficiaries such as the Cape Town Pride Shelter. Other past beneficiaries have included Khumbulani Pride, Mr SA Leather and various LGBTI NPOs and NGOs.

Pride is organised by a volunteer-run non-profit Section 21 company, headed up by festival director Matthew Van As.

“Cape Town Pride festival has become one of the premier events on the Cape Town LGBTI social and community calendar,” said Van As.

“It serves as an opportunity to celebrate our country’s great Constitution with characteristic flair and flamboyance and to make a unique contribution to promoting diversity and tolerance in the Mother City,” he added.

The 2014 Cape Town Pride festival will take place from the 21st of February to the 2nd of March, with the street parade taking place on the 1st of March.

Pink Party

As the start of the Pride festival this is an event not to be missed.

Constitutional Workshop

Cape Town Pride plans to rework its constitution. Attend if you would like your voice to be heard.

Pride March and Pride Fair

The culmination of Cape Town Pride is the Pride March and Fair. Show your pride in who you are! After the march the fair is the place to be to socialise and be entertained by a host of performers and DJs.
