Madonna has released a sexy, homoerotic video for her latest single, while also defying a new anti-gay law in Russia.
The provocative black and white video clip for Girl Gone Wild is steaming up the internet with its combination of erotic imagery and fashion magazine sensibility.
The song comes from Madonna’s anticipated new album, MDNA, which has already garnered positive previews in the U.S. and U.K.
Directed by fashion photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, the highly stylised Girl Gone Wild video features a bevy of half naked male models and dancers and references the star's ongoing fascination with both religion and sex.
Fans have hailed the clip as a return to form for the “queen of pop”, likening it to a combination of Vogue and Erotica.
Meanwhile, Madonna has lashed out at the recently-passed “promotion of homosexuality" law in Russia's second city, St. Petersburg.
The law bars any mention or depiction of homosexuality in public. The singer is scheduled to perform in St. Petersburg as part of her upcoming tour in August.
On Wednesday, Madonna issued a defiant statement on the issue amid concerns that she might be forced to tone down her show:
"I'm a freedom fighter.
... My art
Is all about freedom of expression
Freedom to choose to speak to act
Always with humanity and compassion
I will come to St. Petersburg to speak up for the gay community, to support the gay community and to give strength and inspiration to anyone who is or feels oppressed.
I don't run away from adversity.
I will speak during my show about this ridiculous atrocity."
