TOP GAY TRAVEL MAG NAMES CAPE TOWN’S BEACHES AMONG WORLD’S BEST

Passport magazine says that Cape Town’s stunning beaches are a must-visit destination for international gay tourists. 

The leading gay travel publication has listed the city’s beaches at no 6 in its list of the 25 Best Beaches in The World.

“If your priority is sun and fun with the gay community, there are definitely a couple stretches of sand where you’ll want to lay your blanket,” says the magazine’s J. Michael Nemeth.

He goes on to highlight Clifton Third as “by far the busiest and most lauded gay beach”, noting that: “Upon arrival it may seem cliquey and off-putting, but the crowd (and if it is sunny, it will be crowded, seven days a week) is actually quite welcoming and low on the attitude scale.”

Nemeth adds, however, that “pretty much nobody goes into the water, at least not beyond ankle depth, because this is the Atlantic, and the water is freezing—and, of course, super cold water is not the most flattering element for tiny bathing suits.”

He also mentions Sandy Bay, “the (unofficial) gay nude beach” and Camps Bay, “popular among all the beautiful people, gay and straight…”

The other five top beaches in the world are: L’Espiguette (near Aigues-Mortes, France); Karekare Beach (Auckland, New Zealand); Bocas del Toro (Panama); Matira Beach (Bora Bora, French Polynesia); and Búzios (Brazil).

In August last year, Cape Town was voted the fifth most “surprisingly gay-friendly” destinations in the world by 5,000 members of the gay dating and travel app SCRUFF.
