Jozi Launch: Emergence & Please Her

17 November 2016
The HOLAAfrica team is launching Emergence, an artistic journal by African queer women, as well as Please Her, a safe sex and pleasure manual for African women.

The event is taking place on 19 November from 1pm to 4pm at the OSISA offices in Rosebank (148 Jan Smuts), Johannesburg.

Emergence is a bilingual artistic journal that has the works of women from countries such as Ghana, Kenya and Zimbabwe.

It was edited by Burkina Faso born Mariam Armisen and John McAllister from the United Kingdom, making it a truly global undertaking.

The publication forms part of the work done by HOLAAfrica, a pan-Africanist womaniser online collective, and the Open Society Youth Fellowship project focusing on equipping African queer women with the ability to own their narratives.

From the creative to the sex advice everything coming together at this launch is part of an important conversation not only within South Africa but also for the continent and globally due to the lack of queer female voices on the global stage, especially hailing from the region.

The launch will host works of art, photography, samples of the work and even the spoken word, with performances being a part of the events of the day.
