The QUILTBAG* Project is hosting a seminar and film festival focused on transgender issues in Pretoria at the Dr Miriam Makeba Auditorium (UNISA’s Muckleneuck Campus) on 7 and 8 October.
The first day of the event will be launched with a keynote address by Constitutional Court Justice Edwin Cameron.
This will be followed by a series of talks on topics such as “Trans representation in film”, “A failure to translate”, “The uses and abuses of tragedy in lesbian film”, “Understanding transgender identity”, and many more.
The evening programme will include a cocktail function at 6pm and the opening of the film festival, with a screening of the film Tomboy at 7.45pm.
Day two will see an afternoon and evening programme of film screenings: The Danish Girl; Southern Comfort; Venus Boyz; Still Black: A Portrait of Black Transmen; and a surprise classic film. The screenings will each be followed by an analysis and Q&A.
