TWO HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS ATTACKED AND EXPELLED FOR BEING GAY IN KENYA

Two boys have been beaten and expelled for having sex with each other at one of Kenya’s oldest high schools.

According to local media, students at the Maseno boys boarding school in Kisumu County allegedly found the two having sex in the dormitory toilet.

The boys were badly beaten by their colleagues before being turned over to the principal. He, in turn, promptly expelled them.

The principal was reported as saying that the school has no room for “such people” and “acts” and threatened anyone else caught under similar circumstances with expulsion.

The Maseno High School was founded in 1906 by Christian missionaries. It is sponsored by the Anglican Church of Kenya, which is known for its anti-gay stance.

Despite’s Kenya’s constitution enshrining the equality of all its citizens and outlawing discrimination, the LGBT community is in practice excluded from these protections and remains a persecuted minority.

Homosexuality is outlawed in the country, with penalties including five to 14 years in prison, and LGBT expression is banned by the country’s censors.

In July, the Mombasa High Court allowed the Kenyan authorities to continue to force anal exams on men accused of homosexuality in order to use the results as “evidence” in criminal prosecutions against them.
